At The Swiss Touch Physiotherapy and Massage, we often meet clients who delay seeking physiotherapy, unsure whether their aches, stiffness, or injuries warrant professional care. It’s a common misconception that physiotherapy is only for elite athletes or people recovering from major surgeries. The truth is, physiotherapy can benefit anyone, from desk workers with tight shoulders to weekend warriors nursing a niggling knee.
So how do you know when it’s time to see a physiotherapist? Here are 7 clear signs that your body is telling you it’s time to book in.
1. Pain that won’t go away:
If you’ve been dealing with pain for more than a few days, especially if it’s not improving or getting worse, it’s time to consult a physiotherapist. Whether it’s lower back pain, shoulder tension, or a recurring ankle sprain, persistent discomfort is your body’s way of asking for help. We'll assess your complaint and look for the root cause of the pain to provide a holistic approach to your care rather than just covering up your symptoms.
2. Limited movement or stiffness:
Stiffness is often a sign of joint or muscular dysfunction that can be treated and improved with physiotherapy and mobility exercises. If you struggle to reach overhead, reach to tie your shoes, these are problems that can be helped by improving your mobility. Furthermore, as we age, we want to help you prevent stiffness becoming a larger issue so that you can keep up with the activities you enjoy.
3. You’ve had an injury:
Even injuries that seem minor at the time, like a pulled hamstring or rolling an ankle, can have long term consequences if not managed properly. And old injuries you thought had recovered may still be affecting your movement patterns, strength, or posture. At The Swiss Touch, we will help to identify these imbalances and help you return to full function to safely and confidently get back to your activities. We will help you built a structured and tailored rehabilitation programme and take you through the process step by step to make sure your injury recovers to full strength and doesn’t become a long term problem.
4. You are a desk based worker:
In both our Mayfair and Kensington clinics, we are seeing a large number of clients with postural pain caused by prolonged sitting. Tight hips, rounded shoulders, neck pain, and tension headaches are all common. Physiotherapy can help address these issues with manual therapy, ergonomic advice, and corrective exercises to help ease your stiffness and strengthen your body positioning.
5. You’ve noticed a decline in your performance output:
Whether you’re a weekend jogger or a regular at the gym, if you’ve noticed a dip in your usual performance, it could be due to a biomechanical imbalance, muscle weakness, or early signs of overuse. A physiotherapist can fine-tune your movement and help prevent injury before it starts.
6. Recurring headaches:
Physiotherapy can be a great tool to help with headaches, especially those caused by tension, posture, or temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. We often work with clients experiencing chronic tension headaches and jaw discomfort, using targeted techniques to release tight muscles and prescribe daily exercises and stretches.
7. You don’t feel your best:
Sometimes, it’s not pain or a specific injury, it’s just that your body doesn’t feel balanced, strong, or aligned. You might feel sluggish, tight, or fatigued. A physiotherapist’s job isn’t just to treat injuries, it’s to help you feel and function at your best. We’ll work with you to understand your goals and help you move and feel better.
At Swiss Touch Physiotherapy and Massage, we believe in proactive, preventative care. Our team in Mayfair and Kensington combine traditional physiotherapy with a holistic, hands on approach tailored to your lifestyle and needs. Whether you’re recovering, preventing, or simply optimising your body, we’re here to guide you to your end goal.
